Google Celebrates National Day for the United Arab Emirates

Google celebrates the United Arab Emirates’ National Day with a doodle on its homepage on the UAE domain.

On this day, 2nd of December 1971, the United Arab Emirates was formed after receiving its independence formally from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and eventually leading to the unification of the seven emirates which together formed the UAE.

The innovative doodle presented by Google depicts a falcon flying across the sky as it carries banners in the color of the UAE flag which form the Google logo with one of the banners depicting one of the tombs found on the island of Umm Al-Nar.

The history of the United Arab Emirates extends to well before the union was formed 41 years ago.  This year our Google UAE National Day doodle celebrates the civilization of Umm Al Nar which existed on an island just off the coast of Abu Dhabi from around 2500 to 2000 BC.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Through this doodle Google aims to celebrate the union of the UAE as well as to raise awareness of the cultural treasures that exist there.

Doodles are known as the decorative changes that are made to the Google logo  to celebrate different people, events or special dates such as holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists and scientists.  Over the years, doodles on the Google homepage have made searching on Google more fun and enjoyable for its users worldwide.
