More than 1,900 residents take a stand towards better heart health

Majid Al Futtaim Properties and the Dubai Health Authority wrap up a successful nationwide campaign in support of World Heart Day
Dubai, Middle East, 21 October 2012: More than 1,900 residents across the UAE made the first step toward better heart health, by visiting any one of Majid Al Futtaim Properties’ six shopping malls across the nation, wrapping up a two-week ‘World Heart Day’ campaign in partnership with the Dubai Health Authority and the Emirates Cardiac Society. Ajman City Centre, Deira City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, Mirdif City Centre, Fujairah City Centre and Sharjah City Centre joined hands to raise awareness of the world’s number one killer – cardiovascular disease, in a dedicated campaign that witnessed a call to action from over 1,900 residents.
All six of the Majid al Futtaim Properties’ malls took part in the World Heart Day activity this year. Over two weekends, September 28-29th and October 5-6th, Deira City Centre and Fujairah City Centre and then Mirdif City Centre, Sharjah City Centre and Ajman City Centre, hosted medical healthcare experts from hospitals in the surrounding communities to give members of the public free health advice and heart check-ups, including Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol.
Ajman City Centre supported with complementary heart health testing, through a partnership with Ajman Medical District and the Rashid Center for Diabetes & Research, both part of the UAE Ministry of Health. In addition, Mall of the Emirates hosted a ‘Walk for a Cause’ on September 27th, which encouraged residents to get active and promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle. With strong support from the local community, everyone who took part in the walk was rewarded with a specially-designed tee-shirt commemorating the occasion.
“We are pleased to have had such a success throughout the World Heart Day activity, across all of the participating Majid al Futtaim Properties. The figure of visitor numbers shows us that there is a demand from the public for heart health advice and information on how to improve their lifestyles – this was the aim of the entire initiative, and it is rewarding to know that we have helped to increase the health of many residents in the UAE. We will build on the awareness of heart disease in our campaign next year, and we are thankful for the continuing support from the Dubai Health Authority and participating hospitals, in helping us mutually achieve this goal” said Fuad Abdulhaq Al Najjar, Senior Director – Asset Management, Shopping Malls for Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
